Hi all, I have been looking through posts to get an idea on some of the common rear spring rates. I don't understand why the IRS cars always seem to have higher rates than the solid axle. Is this preferrence or necessecity? Thanks, Jon.

The rate difference with the IRS verses the live axle car because of the lever action difference. It takes more spring to get the same actual wheel rate with the IRS than the live axle. I don't have the numbers in front of me to give you exact numbers. What I have found is the IRS car generally likes 550-650lb rear springs while the live axle likes 250-400 depending on rear set up.
