In thinking about what I would, and would not, like to do when I'm finally able to build my FFR, I realized that I would much rather not have to mess with a computer, if possible. To my mind, this would open up my options for donor engines, whether I wanted to go with a crate, or even build ( ) one from the oil pan up. At the very least, it wouldn't force me to necessarily find a complete donor. If I were to avoid the computer all together, would that mean, then, that I have to go Carbed/Manual Trans, or would this still require the computer? Realistically, are there that many Carbed 5.0's out there that would make good donors? And, last question, if I were to be "forced" into an EFI, what's involved in switching to Carb? Is it just a matter of new Intake and fuel routing, or is there something more to it?

Big TIA.

A carb'd car does not need a computer. Your engine options will not vary much whether or not it is a carb or EFI system.

Remember there are more than just the Ford EFI system out there.

I'm carbed but the computer cars are very reliable. The computers do not seem to have a problem. From what I've read here most of the problems are with the sensors etc.

The Carb/EFI is your decision. Both work well.

Not sure but I believe the last Carb mustang was a 1984 or 85.

The switch over to carb from EFI is fairly straight forward. Parts needed....carb, manifold, fuel pickup, fuel pump, can use the stuff from donor just add regulator, Distributor and electronics. This is most of the list I'm sure I missed something.

You should be able to sell the EFI stuff off the donor to help offset the additional cost. I did.
