I'm in the middle of a 5.0 swap in my Mustang, and can't figure this out. My waterpump pulley looks to be about 1/2" to far back. It doesn't line up with the crankshaft or other pulleys. What am I missing?

I'm 90% sure this pulley came off of this engine/waterpump. I recently moved so my garage is in shambles, but this is the only serpentine pulley I've got. Is there some sort of spacer I could be missing?

Jeff... what type dampener are you using? Is it stock or aftermarket? Some aftermarkets are narrower than the stock and need to be spaced. Mine is a Summit and had to be spaced almost an inch.

Jeff,
I just measured a stock Mustang 5.0 pulley and it's 3/4" from the front of the belt area to the front of the mounting area. The Mustang waterpump is 6" from the back side to the front of the mounting area. Does your waterpump turn freely? My donor was a front hit and the water pump shaft was pushed back, so far that it punched a hole in the timing cover. If you haven't removed the pump you might want to check that. My donor even ran this way (minus the belt of course).

I'll compare those measurements tonight. Mine was also a front hit, so perhaps this is the problem. The engine ran briefly when I bought it, but I don't know if the water pump will turn. I'll check it tonight.

Jeff,
I just checked out your donor on your website. I'll bet you $20 your water pump is toast. Better look real close at that timing cover too. Good luck with the build.

Jeff,

From looking at the pics there is a lot more fan axle sticking out of the fan hub than usual. The fan probable pushed the hub down the shaft at impact. You had better pull the WP and verify there's no damage to the timing cover. Better that than mix any water and oil.

All those who guessed the waterpump and timing cover are toast are correct. The waterpump shaft stretched the back of the waterpump into a cone shape. The timing cover wasn't as flexible, and got a small hole punched through the middle. Time to buy more parts . . .
