I'm picking up my Spec Racer on saturday, and I'm going to rig up some 6x6 supports on a 20' boat trailer to do so.

1. How long are the main frame rails?

2. How far apart are they, center to center?

Anyone see any problems?

Thanks,
Brendan

I used an 8' x 8' snowmobile trailer, the frame rails fit on the )bed without any overhang (although the upper rear portion of frame - wheel wells & behind -- will overhang, but not enough weight back there to make a difference. If you can borrow someone's snowmobile trailer, it will be easier than screwing around with a boat trailer, IMHO.

The trailer I was going to borrow fell through, thats why I'm going this route.

I figure if I just run 2 6x6's across the trailer frame and secure them on each side, the Frame Rails of the FFR should sit very nicely. We're definately talking a lot less weight than the boat, and it should be pretty easy to secure.

I measure the main rails 90.5" long and 24" wide.
Hope this helps.

Don't forget the kit has 10-15 bulky boxes also, and I found that those web/ratchet tiedowns were very helpful to secure the frame & body.

I've picked up using a U-Haul flat bed (has low sides) and that worked fine, which might be another option to consider. The sides were very close to the roadster body - but we cinched it down and using a couple tires under it it didn't rub.

Good Luck & Have Fun! Pick-up days are pretty exciting!!

sorry - not 24" wide ... 24" center-to-center.

BRG Snake,
Is that the car hauler Uhaul Trailer? I think I am going to do that myself. Did you have to put any wood across the trailer or did the frame rails fit in the tire rails ok?

I usd a Uhaul car trailer & needed to put wood accross. Frame is just a little off from the wheel rests.

Also bring the heavy duty rachet tie downs. I used the thick yellow ones from Home Depot. Think they can hold 10000. Sounds like overkill, but you dont want that thing moving at 80 mph

Don't forget all those boxes...

I had a car trailer and a Jeep grand cherooke.. While the fuel cell and two other big boxes were back orderd I was not that upset since they were not going to fit anyway....

Many will fit in the car but some do not.. If you have a pick up your fine.. if your like me with 4 people and a jeep your cutting it thin

Thanks Everyone.

I'm heading down with a trailer towed behind a dodge durango. Should be plenty of room with the rear seats down, as I'm heading down solo. I've got a roof rack and tie downs if I end up needing it too.

Brendan - Wife and I will be there tomorrow as well. If you need extra room for the boxes, I'd be more than happy to stuff a few in my Explorer and follow you back.

Rob,
What is in all those large boxes? Windscreen I assume? What else? I planned on dragging a trailer behind my Explorer with two other guys with me. Will it all fit?

no, that wasn't the U-Haul car hauler. it was an open Uhaul open low side trailer with a tail gate. We dropped the gate and tied it horizontal.
The frame/body hung out the back a bit. locked it all down with ratchet straps. The sides would have rubbed on the body, but we braced up the body with tires so it cleared the trailer sides and carried it fine.

If I can find a pix, I'll post it. A pix would be far better than my attempted description.
