I may be able to pick-up a restored 1967 S Code Mustang just for fun but I don't know jack about classic Mustangs. Are 1967 S Codes desirable? Are they dogs? What would be a fair price? Here is a description:

1967 Ford Mustang S Code (390-335 hp).

This is a numbers matching car with well over $40000.00 invested in frame up restoration. The body was media blasted to bare metal then repainted in original dark blue metallic (Sikkens, acrylic urethane with triple clear coat). All new chrome with exception of original vent windows that were re-chromed. Complete new interior (new dash, dash panels, instrument clusters, wood steering wheel, head liner, seats, floor carpet). Motor was rebuilt in 97 when restoration was started (has original intake manifold, Hooker competition headers, 2 1/2 inch pipes, Flowmasters and original exhaust tips. Trans was also rebuilt at same time and a Hurst shifter was installed. New 3.50 rear end. Original steel wheels and Firestone wide ovals with oversized G70 14”. Only 900 miles since 1990 and 350 miles since restoration. Six shows six first places. All documentation from restoration.

Thanks!

S-Code Mustangs are very popular. Check out the prices on ebay for a comparison, they always move for over 10-15K, even the ratty ones. Sounds like the one you're looking at is beautiful. Tons of power in the straight line, but can be a handful going around corners!! 390 is a heavy engine, makes the Mustang a bit nose heavy. I actually saw an X code '67 this spring up here in MA. That's a 390 with a factory installed 3x2 intake. It was fully documented and restored.

That Mustang is on my must have list, You know the one in your head for when you win the lottery :D One of my friends owned a 67 S-code 390 GT Fastback, and it was one of the most fun cars I ever drove. Is this car a fastback or coupe? How much do you think you can pick it up for? It sounds like a bautiful car. Go for it if the price is right.

See Ya

Thanks guys I really appreciate it. To answer some questions, I can pick it up in the low $20's and it is a fastback. I think the price is just a bit high but I'm assuming that's because the owner thinks that's what it's worth.

I don't think it is a 95+ point car but just really well restored. Or stated another way, it is not a #1 car but a solid #2.

The current owner and prior owner were associated with Ford in some way (one works for the dealer and another works for a parts supplier to Ford). I'm going to go see/drive it over the weekend.

More feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Low 20s isn't bad if it's in the shape you say it is. These cars on are par with 428 powered Mach 1's for collector value. Even more so because its the car Steve McQueen drove in Bullit.

Make sure you check for rust.

Take a flashlight and look into the cowl openings. See if the vent hats have rust around them. They are often totally rusted through, which allows water to drip on your feet, causing the front floorboards to rust as well.

Look under the front and rear floorboards for rust. Check the lower front corner of both doors. Check the rear fender lips at the top, and at the bottom behind the wheels. Check the rear trunklid for rust along the back edge.

Look not only for rust in all these places, but for poor patch jobs. One of the hardest things about buying an old Mustang is finding one without extensive cancer. Most everything else can be fixed easily, but the rust is a real bugger.

Sorry so long, but my project before the Cobra was a '67 Mustang that I got for a good price. Turns out that fixing all the rust was going to cost $$$. So I sold it and got a Cobra! :D

DragonSnake - thanks for the tips...good stuff; I'll be sure to check all of the areas you mentioned.

In speaking to the seller, he mentioned that when he restored it, the entire car was "media blasted" down to metal and that any time you do that, you're never sure what you're going to find. He said any rusted spots were cut out and new metal was welded in. Nonetheless, I will check out the car carefully. I've heard that the underside of the package shelf (accessed from inside the trunk) is also an area that rusts out in these cars.

Thanks again!
