I was helping a friend change the oil in his 7.4L boat motor. While pouring in the second quart he realized that he accidentally grabbed a quart of the lower unit gear lube. He plans on pumping out the oil again, but should he be concerned with damaging the motor? Or can he just finish filling the motor and run it as is?

It's like running gearlube in your oil. Essentially the same thing. If he drains the oil well, he should be OK. If I were hime I'd use a drill end pump rather than one of the hand pump siphons. I never had a good feeling that I got all the oil out with the siphon deal.

Two best days of boat ownership...day you buy it & day you sell it!
