I was driving through a neighborhood near my house last weekend, coming back from an errand to the local home depot. I was following this lady in the ubiquitous late 80’s Chrysler minivan, with the paint chipped and smoke coming out of the tailpipe. I was behind her for a while wandering through the various stop signs. At about the fourth stop sign, with me stopped behind her, I am startled when I see white light (reverse lights) flash on her taillights. She has put the car in park in the middle of the street at a stop sign.
She swings open the door and takes four aggressive steps toward me. I am thinking, what the heck did I do? Was I too close? Was I driving too fast? Did I cut her off before? Had she seen me getting on a freeway prior? I quickly looked in my rear view mirror to see if I could back out of the way of this oncoming, obese, angry looking Mother of at least three.
She comes right up to my door and I still can’t understand what I did, and she says, “That is the most beautiful car I have ever seen”. I thank her, wipe the sweat from my brow, and complete my journey home. These cars even bring out the best in soccer moms!
