Mike,

It all depends on what your county requirements are. I live in Lorain county and we have emission requirements and must go through E-check. However, our neighbor to the west, Erie county, has no emmission requirements thus no E-check. I believe most counties in Ohio have emission requirements and require you to meet the emmission requirements for the year engine you have. Call your local dept of motor vehicles.

MIKE, Check your county to see If they are part of E-Check (www.epa.state.oh.us/)you can check links on this page to find out.
If you live in a E-check county 1) Put it all Back! 2) Look into getting a "collector vehicle exemption" you have to have a daily driver car titled in your name. 3)Title your car in a non-E-check county.
Doug, what did you use for proof/ confirmation of engine year??? so you do not have to meet air standards for the year your car got it^s VIN #, but the standard on the year of the engine.

Steve,

Good question. Haven't been thru e-check yet w/ the car. Just finished and titled it late last year. It is my understanding that you need to meet emissions requirements for year of your engine. Not exactly sure how they confirm year of motor or what proof I may need. I don't think I have to do e-check until 2003. I am however running all of the smog stuff plus CATS.

Double Vennom turned me on using the Collector discreption when regstering the car. You need a letter from a club or dealer describing the car as a collector car. The Ohio code states it must have a value of 100.00 and be described a collectors car. This should not be hard to do. The code also states that this provision can not be used to circumvent epa checks, so don't go into the dmv and put your foot in your mouth. the collector car is not required to meet smog rules. Go figure!

DOUG,
Check out, www.epa.state.oh.us/dapc/mobile.html,
E-check topics "Self assembled vehicles & kitcars" Per this YOU have to provide proof of engines year. Your VIN# was assigned last year so with out engine documentation they will test you to 2001 standards!
I purchased a 1988 LX donor that I have title to. Just put in to FOMOCO's customer assistance center for a copy of my cars "Build Sheet",(2-4 weeks) but don't know what kind of motor # info will be on it. Any one know if the # stamped on the back of the block is listed on build sheet??
Any one know if the # stamped on engine block shows up on any documentation anywhere? This would be good proof for the EPA people.
THANKS, Steve FFR3313

I too register in Ohio (Lake County) this past year. As Required by OHIO DMV, inspection of the assembled car, include's reciept's (notarized if private sale) for all major components, ie engine, trans, hoods doors etc,. These reciepts should be kept as proof of year of orgin. In my case, I still have the notarized reciept for the 1971 engine is purchased privately. Also the engine casting serial numbers could be used to indicate year that the block was made (not machined).

MARK,
That's good your engine is over the magic 25 years. Did the Ohio state highway patrol inspection people give you a "Permanent Exemption" , or did you have to make a "one time visual inspection by the Ohio EPA Mobile Sources Staff" to get your permanent exemption from the E-Check program?

The number stamped on the block is the same as the sequencial model number of the vehicle. In other words, it is the same as the last digits on the title. It looks like by having the title, you have all the documentation you need for the engine year. BTW, what does an "88 engine get you? Aren"t the emissions requirements the same as a new engine?

Mark, Thanks wanted a FR rack & a Powermaster brake set up, But it looks like I might have to buy 2 Cats to pass initial inspection.(First week I have car and there go's the budget already) Maybe by the time about a year go's buy and I need them can figure out how to get collector vehicle status without a initial inspection by the EPA boy's.

Rick, They take the VIN punch into the confuser so you "meet standards established for the year the vehicle was manufactured"
I would call the e-check and talk with them, But went over my packing list and there is UPS next to over 50+ items! So I'm already depressed and don't want more from them.
FFR marked off giving me seats in box #6 But that was the windscreen box kind of narrow to fit seats into.Maybe I could upgrade to those nice looking sube seats in that pic of the Daytona spider??? Since they did'nt give me any.
Thanks, STEVE FFR3313
