PROPOSED LEGISLATION TO EASE TITLING AND REGISTRATION OF REPLICA CARS

Ohio House Bill 39 (H.B. 39) is a version of SEMA’s model legislation that is designed to ease the process by which replica cars, like our Cobras, are titled and registered has been introduced in the Ohio House of Representatives. H.B. 39 defines a "replica car" as a motor vehicle that is constructed, assembled, or modified as to replicate the make, model, and model year of a motor vehicle that is at least twenty-five years old. Currently, there is no specific registration and titling class for replicas. The bill is currently awaiting consideration in the House Transportation and Public Safety Committee.

• H.B. 39 creates a specific registration and titling class for replica cars. Under the bill, replica cars will be assigned a certificate of title bearing the same model year designation as the production vehicle they most closely resemble.

• H.B. 39 provides that replica cars shall be maintained only for occasional transportation, exhibitions, vehicle club activities, parades, tours, repairs, and similar limited uses and not for general or daily transportation.

• H.B. 39 provides that a replica car need not have equipment that was not required by state or federal law in its model year.

The passage of this bill would be of benefit to everyone that owns a Cobra. If you would like to help get H.B. 39 passed, please write your Representative and ask for their support in passing this bill.

H.B. 39 is sponsored by Rep. John Becker and Rep. John Patterson and co-sponsored by Representatives Kristin Boggs, Joe Miller, Michael J. O'Brien, John M. Rogers, and William Seitz.
