Each year, the Philly region of SCCA Solo II holds a charity autocross called the Holbert Memorial. Each year, the beneficiary is different. This year, by my suggestion, we have chosen the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, as I wanted to do my part to support Team Jenny and the wonderful efforts of the Smith Brothers and their family/friends.

The event will be held on Sunday, October 6th at the parking lot of Cambells Field, in Camden, New Jersey. Here is a link to our website that can give you more info, including directions and times. http://www.autox4u.com/philly/phillysolo.htm

For those of you in the area, PLEASE try to attend. It benefits a great cause.

Anyone who cannot attend, but wish to contribute, please let me know. If you wish to donate, please e-mail me at [email protected] and I will give you my address. Or, I have a Paypal account. Go to www.Paypal.com, and my account is under my e-mail address listed above.

For anyone who has never autox'd, this is a great opportunity to get your feet wet. It's a fun, cheap and safe way to explore the abilities/limits of your Cobra in a controlled environment.

Looking forward to a great event and hope for a great turnout. Thank you for your support.

Is there any way we can stick this on the top of the forum?

Steve

Want to try one more time. Is anyone willing to sponsor me in our charity event to benefit CFF/Team Jenny? Even if you want to send two quarters you find under the couch, I'll be happy to take it. As the Rolling Stones sang...Ain't too proud to beg... Thanks.

We'll donate $25, but what's it going to and how woul dit be used? We can also link this to the front page if you post some more details. We don't do sticky treads, instead we post the front page if its a hot topic. Just let us know more details.

Thanks!

Bill,
Thanks for your support. I will get the exact nitty gritty details from the president of my SCCA chapter this Sunday. But each year, we do a charity event autox. It is a double points event, in the hopes to draw a bigger crowd. The entrance fee ($20 or $25 for member/non-member) is donated to a charity. We generally draw about 150 cars for a regular non-charity event. I want to get as many cars as we can.

A quick background on my idea. Last year, after the 9/11 tragedy, I wanted to do something (as everyone did) to do my part to help. We already had the yearly charity event planned and ready before the attacks. So, in addition to that, I proposed the idea of making our last event of the season an additional charity run. I had drivers get sign up sheets and get friends/family to sponsor them for their first 4 runs. The proceeds from that went to a special program run by the Toys For Tots program of the US Marine Corps. to buy presents for the holidays for children left without a parent from the attacks. This idea was put together quickly and done in ADDITION to , and completely seperate from, our yearly charity event. It was done by me with the support of our region. We still raised about $1600. It was a great success, but I really wanted to do something more this year.

This year I nominated CFF as the charity of choice for our well run and organized annual event, sponsored by the SCCA Solo II Philly Region, and it was selected. So, the proceeds from the entry fees will go to that charity. And my idea is to try to get additional sponsorship from our friends and family. I'm will work out the details of that with our chapter president on Sunday. But my thought is kind of like people who do charity walks and get people to sponsor them for each mile walked. But in an autox, that wouldn't quite work. So, I figured we could just get people to donate whatever amount they want to sponsor a driver, and add that to the total donation.

I suggested this year that we choose the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as our charity of choice, because I really wanted to help Team Jenny. Our donation will be made directly to the CFF via the Philadelphia Region of the SCCA Solo II program.

I welcome and would beg for any donations people are willing to contribute, but more than that, I would LOVE anyone in the area to show up and race with us (and/or get people to sponsor them too). It would be an awesome spectacle to see lots of Cobras at one autocross. I've got my fingers and toes crossed for good weather.

Again, thanks for the support, Bill. I will get the exact nut and bolt details from our chapter president Sunday, but I wanted to start getting the word out. But it's a great event, and we raise a good amount of money.

Bill,
I have spoken with our chapter president. Here's the scoop on our event.

All of our profits from the October 6th autocross will be donated directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. It is my job to get someone from the Foundation to be present at the event, as we hand them one of those "big, oversized, monster, fake" checks right at the event (for photos, which are put into the SCCA magazine). We also would welcome the CFF representative to give a short speech about the foundation at the drivers meeting and/or hand out pamphlets about the foundation.

Last year, our donation was $2000 from entry fees alone. If the weather is good, we expect over 150 cars to show up. The entry fee is $20 for SCCA members, $25 for non members. I believe the only portion of this that is not donated is our cost of renting the parking lot that we run on.

My idea of handing out "formal" sponsor sheets for drivers to get friends/family to donate money in addition to the entrance fee was shot down, due to the fact that it is already complex enough to run the charity event, and with well over 150 cars there, the event is already a handfull to handle. They are afraid if we have to handle the entrance fees AND count the seperate donations sheets (checking them one by one to make sure they are correct), plus run the event, it will get too confusing and take away too much time (keep in mind it is a double points event, so the actual race is very important to them too).

However, there is going to be a dontation box at the event where additional donations can be placed. So we are free to encourage friends/family to give us donations to stuff the box with. And everyone is encouraged to give a seperate donation. We're just not going to do the advanced sponsorship sheet.

If we get well over 150 cars to show up, we should be able to better our $2000 formal donation from last year. But with help from my fellow Cobra members, I want to STUFF that donation box, and will proudly tell the CFF representative that it was Team Jenny's effort that helped stuff the box.

So, again, please help me fill the parking lot with Cobras, which will increase the SCCA donation amount. If you can't attend, please help me make that donation box overflow with money. Let's show how strong we believe in Team Jenny. Thank you for any support you can give.

Bill,
Could you do me a favor and post something about this on the front page, so someone checking in for the first time will see it.

The event is coming together well, we will have a representative from Cystic Fibrosis at the event, and will be doing photos. I'd like to make a good showing. Thanks.

Bill has kindly reminded me that I can use Paypal. I forgot I even have one of those accounts, I hadn't used it in two years. I'm terribly computer challenged, so I couldn't figure out how to make a direct link to my account, but I put all the info in the top of this thread. Thanks.

I just received word that Dave Smith and the FFR race team will be attending this event, to help support our fundraising efforts. If you wish to meet the team, all are welcome to attend. Help us raise money for Team Jenny. Here is the post from the Factory Five website. Hope to see you there.

Cystic Fibrosis/Team Jenny Autocross, October 6, Camden, NJ

Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey FFROGs are dodging the cones in an effort to raise some dough for our favorite charity - Team Jenny. This is a Philly-SCCA sponsored event, and our own Dave Smith is already laying down the gauntlet as the man to beat. Steve Klayman, [email protected] is rounding up the FFROGs.

Bringing this to the top one last time, then I'll let it die.

The charity autox to benefit Team Jenny is less than 2 weeks away. If anyone can please support me by making a donation, please let me know.

If you're in the area, it's a good chance to meet Dave Smith. I think he'll show us all how capable an FFR roadster is at autox, when in the right hands. :D ;)

Olli,
Sorry it took so long to respond. I usually only check this when I'm at work.

I'm thrilled to hear you plan to attend. You do not need to preregister. This will be a good first autox for you to attend. There will be lots of people there and everyone is willing to help.

The link to the event is at the top of this thread. It has directions to the Camden, NJ location. It is in the parking lot of Cambells Field baseball field, right at the base of the Ben Franklin Bridge. Registration closes at 9:15, so you need to be there early. The earlier you can arrive, the better. That will give you time to walk the course, so you can learn where you're going when you're driving. The entrance fee is $25.

There will probably be a food cart there, but it may not be a bad idea to pack some food/water for yourself.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Look forward to seeing you there.

Not so good, Bill. But I'm hopeful that nice weather will bring a good turnout and generous donations. So far, and again it depends on weather, I think we'll have at least 8-10 Cobras at the event. Gotta make sure we get some good photos. :D

All of our entrance fees for the event will be donated to CFF, but I was, and still am, hoping to get lots of extra
in sponsors.

Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Flash,
We'd love to have you down there. It's beggining to look like we may get a good number of Cobras to show up. I've gotta find a good photographer to come out. It would make an awesome photo shoot to get all of us together.

To answer your question, if you have a helmet, bring it. If you don't, we do have loaner helmets (but they're pink  :D ). Other than that, I'd just recommend bringing lunch and a folding chair if you want. Registration closes at 9:15, but I'd recommend being there earlier, so you can walk the course.

Hope to see you there.
