O.K. First i know its not a cobra, But. I found an ad in my local paper for a 91 Miata for $300.00 I called the guy up and asked how bad the car was. he says it doesnt start and the clutch or trans is gone. It has been sitting for 5 years. the car only has 33000 miles on it. I drag it home against my wifes better wishes. I start to investigate why it wont start. While fooling around with it i notice the clutch pedal is bent. upon further investigation i notice it is not contacting the starter enable switch when depressed. I press the button and the car fired right up!!!!!!
Now why did the clutch pedal bend??? I notice that one of the bolts holding the slave cylinder on is missing. Take off slave cylinder, it is frozen solid all the way out. I bought a new slave cylinder and installed it. Bled the clutch, and drove it right out of my garage. No bad engine no bad clutch no bad tranny. My geuss is the slave cylinder stuck in the open position and when the clutch was pressed again it sheared the bolt and bent the pedal rendering the car useless to the average person. I now own a $338.00 Miata that only needs a rear window and a brake job to be road worthy. Not a bad day for me.

So now you take the Miata seats out with the speakers in the head rest and install them in your FFR right?

Wow, how cool is that. I might have jumped at it too, but it would have cost me a bit more than $338. Let's see - one more car in the garage would require a lift ($3000) or another bay ($8,000). Probably would have to give in to the wife on the sun room addition ($20,000). And then there was something about the kids needing their teeth fixed and wanting to go to summer camp ($5,000). So the way I see it, I saved something like $30 grand by reading about and not acting on it, plus it would have gotten in the way of the FFR build!

Mike, I was so sure that this was going to be a remake of the "lady's husband left with his secretary and told the wife to sell the car and the house" story. Your's is even better! I understand the wife not wanting another project being dragged home....I sold my trailer to prevent myself from dragging anything else home! (although drivable projects are still an option :D)

Awesome Deal!!!

Listen, I'll give you $1300 for it right now. That's a 300% profit. Please accept so we can both say we got a good deal. Plus my wife wants a convertible and I can't afford an FFR yet.

Yeah but she knows what he paid for it so it's not going to count for much against a GT40 kit. ;)

Information for any of you guys wanting a cheap motor for your miata 1.9. did you know that the ford escort GT front wheel drive motor is actually a mazda motor and will bolt right up to a miata gearbox. the only part that has to be changed is the presure plate. The reason I know this is we put one in a bugeye sprite -dual solex carbs- mazda miata 5speed -mazda truck transmision tail shaft(moves the shifter forward in the car)
