This is the time of year when folks bring up, "new years resolutions".

I have always thought it was kind of silly, if not tacky,,,to wait until the "beginning" of the year to decide to do something- which you should have already done, such as quit smoking etc.

BUT,2003 is looking to be one of many new things for me, so I thought I'd share some of my goals/plans for the upcoming year.

In 2003 I plan to,

#1:surprise my wife as often as possible.

We just celebrated out 13th anniversary, and I want her to always know how much she has meant to me. This means I need to bring home flowers a little more often, instead of just on birthdays & stuff. I remember once in a while I'd stop & grab a small bouqet on my way home from work. She'd ask what the flowers were for. I'd answer something like,,,,"oh well,,,, it's Tuesday,,and you always look so beautiful on Tuesdays."

I can't remember the last time I did something like that, so it is definately something I am going to change!

#2; I am going to become an American citizen.

I am originally from Belgium, and have put off becoming a citizen for far too long. When I was a teenager, it didn't seem like something important. (of course when I was a teen, the only important things were cars and girls)
I am glad that my wife share's my political views and she always votes. I also want to be able to participate at election time. I have the application on my desk, & will be filling it out during the holiday season!

#3 I am going to make a "change" so that I enjoy going to work!

I am a third generation mechanic.... or technician in "today's terms". I have been around, and repairing cars for most of my life. I started by learning how to properly operate a broom, was an apprentice for years, and have been specializing in Mercedes for 21 years now. Basically, I have never done anything else. I used to love what I do, but many changes in the biz have killed my enthusiasm. Everything from skyrocketing equipment expenses,a changinng customer base, Gov't mandated expenses,& the daily B/S, etc, etc, have taken their toll on me.

I remember once that one of the Smiths said he had the greatest job in the world. I agree with him, because he obviously is doing something he enjoys.

I am going to invest time, capital, & energy into a new venture, which will make MY job the "greatest job in the world". (providing I don't go broke trying ;) )

#4: I am going to build on very bad ass GT40 replica!

I am waiting for my GT40 to ship from GT40NZ. I remember very well, the joy my FFR project was for me & my daughter,,,,and am really looking forward to the GT40! I can't wait to take it to the track for a few laps!

#5: OK OK, so I should probably lose a few pounds.

..but hey, I can't help it,,,,, give any man the choice between tofu or BBQ ribs and it should be a "no brainer" as to his choice :D

Well, there's my list. How about you?

Try to cut down my checking in on the forum from about 15 times a day to 10 times a day...I don't think I will make it past Jan 2/03. Already setting myself up for failure early on in the year.

This year I'm gonna do it, damn it!

1. I have been looking at foreclosure properties for months and months but have yet to grow the balls to go knocking on doors to try and buy one either before or after the foreclosure. Well, I'm going to do it this year, actually next month(Jan)! I found a winner and am going to buy it. Just pray for me that it isn't a money pit, would ya? If I clear a little money when it is all done then I'll do it all over again.

2. However I make the money to do so, finally step up to the plate and buy a FFR kit!

3. I already quit smoking a few months ago but need to make sure it sticks. Richard Oben, remember at the Fling II you told me to quit smoking and save the money and I could get my kit all the sooner? Well, 3 months of not smoking and I have almost $300.00 in a savings account just from cig. money! I figure if I keep this up, not having those smokes will afford me some go fast goodies.

4. And actually this should be number 1 on the list but I am going to try to be a better husband and daddy because above all those two things are my first and most important job. Been married for almost 4 years so there is enough history to review and improve upon!

Just some of the many things I plan on making better next year.

For all you guys out there who need some incentive to quit smoking:

I started smoking at 15 and continued until I was about 40. I was up to at least 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day, stinking and coughing all the time I was "enjoying" the habit. On July 7, 1985 I threw a nearly full pack into the trash and haven't had a smoke since. By my calculation, I've saved enough "cigarette" money to pay for my FFR kit and also buy all new parts.

Ya I hear ya old guy

We went on a cruise and I was smoking, my daughter told me that I stunk and it's going to kill me, it takes a six year old to open my eyes and glad I did, mind you I don't mind second hand smoke but as for smoking its been a year and a half and I won't go back to it.

Cheers Ray

Now to cut back on the beer consumption

Alain, being a citizen is not hard. If I can do you can. I was born in Holland and it does feel good to vote, and even better when it is close. I did it at 18 the first chance I had to make my own decision. I figured if I have to register for the draft I may as well vote.

I do like what I do, but it is not lucrative. Given the choice happy or rich, I will take happy since I will never know rich.

I to need to be nicer to my wife some days. She does a lot and needs more credit most of the time.

Shed a couple of dozen pounds.

I do feel silly since I told Ruth I had resolved to not make resolutions.

Chad, congratulations!!!!! $300 is a great start.
On the house stuff stay close to where you live. The further away it is the harder it is to work on. DO EVERYTHING YOURSELF, or it will cost you a fortune.

Happy new year. Cheers Richard.
