Just curious to see what the Mustang people think of the Ford Mach E and the fact that its sporting the Mustang logo.

I think it looks awesome. I'm still not a fan of all electric cars for my personal use. I thought the horse and torque would be better in a e suv.

I do not like that it's got the mustang logo. They are not calling it a mustang (that I know of) but that's what people will call it. Mustang is a pony car not a SUV.

Sacrilege to call it a Mustang. The first thing that I would do would be to rip off the mustang badges.

But since I will not buy an electric, I won't have to worry about it.

People agree with themselves quite often, but generally they do not quote themselves in letting others know they agree with themself...:wink2:>:)

Hey, what's the problem?

Ford called a Mustang a "Cobra". Why be surprised when they call an electric SUV a Mustang?

It may well be a fine vehicle...or not...but don't decide based on the name. People were outraged when Volkswagen Group hung the Porsche name on an SUV and all of the MOPAR deciples screamed when Chrysler called a 4 door family sedan "Charger". It's just a name---If I was to bet I'd say that by the time it actually hits production it'll be rebranded. If Ford wants to recycle a nameplate from the past they have plenty of others to choose from; Fusion...Falcon...Maverick...Galaxie...or if they want to stick to the horse theme how about Pinto >:)

I'll admit, my first reaction was "Whaaaat?? That's ridiculous." Saw it on Youtube last night. But then I thought about it....

Calling it Mustang may be the single biggest piece of genius about the whole car. Not that I approve, but they didn't ask me. Men that want a Mustang but have a wife and kids will buy them. Without putting Mustang on it and a few styling cues, it is just another looks like everything else electric SUV. The name Mustang will give it some buzz. Would there be a thread here if were called the Taurus Mach-E? No. Mustang Mach-E, there is now huge buzz in the automotive community. (read - free publicity) I think the success or failure is going to be more related to the electric only part and if it is a good vehicle. If may be a hit or a failure, but it won't hurt the Mustang either way.

"Purists", most of which are not in the market for a new car anyway, will scream and shout. But they are not the ones getting their wallets out anyway. It would be different if this was going to be THE Mustang, but it's not. The Mustang is still there. I doubt that Ford will loose a single buyer because of the name. However, they will gain lots of buyers and HUGE publicity, because of it. No one is going to buy a Corvette instead of a GT500 because there is also an SUV with a Mustang logo.

Purists won when the Probe was going to be the Mustang, because it was going to completely replace it. Ford realized that they could keep making the same old Mustang and sell them.

There are plenty of ex-purists driving Porsche SUVs that swore it was the end of civilization when they were announced.

What happened to the term "crossover"? Is that done now?

On a different note:
I have to agree with Jim1855, "Mustang Cobra" is just stupid. I have even heard people say "I have a Cobra" referring to a Mustang Cobra. Makes me cringe. However, if I were looking for a Fox or SN95 I'd be looking for a Cobra version. Stupid name or not.

Maybe if they had called it the Edge E.

I can almost excuse them for using the Mustang lights, but I think they should have done a little more to the front and rear to separate it from the Mustang. I also feel the name "Mach" is an iconic name plate with the Mustang as being one of the upper performance packages Ford would offer. I'm sorry, I just don't see it here and can't see a good way to implement the "Mach" label on anything in the future and make it what it has been in the past.

I don't even know how to look at this thing and have it make since.

Maybe if they wanted an electric Mustang they should have stuck with the Lithium they used as a test bead and simply kept this as the Edge. I'm not a fan of electric vehicles, but I could see buying a Lithium if it were in production. Especially with its performance numbers. I don't guess it hurts putting the Shelby badging on it either as they use them on trucks as well.

Maybe if you bought one, stuck it in a corner somewhere and waited about 50 years this could be a good investment. Kind of like those Mustang station wagons they did back in the 60s.

I wish them luck with this ….. thing.

Just my 2 cents.

Love the styling. Don't like the Mustang connection. If they can get the high end model to perform like the Tesla Model 3 Performance for a mid $50K sticker they should sell well.

For those that have not driven a performance electric car you need to do your self a favor and go drive one. No it does not have the presence of a high output V8 but it will surprise the heck out of you. A Tesla Model 3 performance will run to 60 mph in 3 seconds flat and turn mid 11's in the 1/4 with no fuss at all and it will put a huge smile on your face. Which is really the point after all, isn't it?

Man, what a bunch of naysayers. People didn't think that the Mustang Ranchero "Mustero" would ever sell either and look how that turned out!

OK, wait...maybe that wasn't a good example. How about the Mustang wagon?

On second thought never mind. Move along. Nothing to see here.

:wink2:

Jeff, buddy, ya need another cup of coffee?? Maybe time for an early cold one?
Rich,
I recently found something that combines both!

Pretty darn tasty actually; they rank right up there with those "Choc-O-Beers" you brought me ;)

Hey, didn't Ford use the name of a small sporty car to sell a trendy large car before.....Thunderbird.

They should have just called this new CUV EV something that I am sure we would agree with...Mustang II.

Maybe if they had called it the Edge E.
The Mustang name is Fords biggest branding asset. They are going to use it to the fullest. Just like they occasionally use "Cobra", which they own. And not on 2 seat English bodied roadsters. They are already getting HUGE publicity, not because of an electric Ford. But because it has a Mustang on the nose. Everyone, besides members of the Tesla religion, looking for a low to mid-priced EV is going to at least have a look, because it is a Mustang. Every Youtuber and car mag is already lining up for press day, because it is a Mustang. Doug Demuro already has a video up because his fans are flooding him with emails. If they called it something else, like the "Edge E" none of that would happen. So they are taking their biggest name (Mustang), combining it with what is currently selling (SUVs) and combining that with what is up and coming (EVs). Mustang + SUV + EV = profit. They will simply sell more units because it is a "Mustang".

Look at some of the absolute CRRRRRAAAAAAAP that has carried the Mustang (starting with the Grande), Mach1 and Cobra badge in the past. You can't even call an early Mustang a good car. They were cool.....but they were pretty mediocre cars. I daily drove a 66 Fastback for 10 years. I loved it. But it was very far from a "good" car. What exactly are the purists protecting besides nostalgia?

Want to take bets on how long it is before one says Shelby-E on it? Its not like that badge hasn't been on a couple pooches either.
