If you are using F body donor parts the neutral switch is for the computer and will not handle the current of the starter for long. If you are using the donor fuel injection you should leave it hooked up. It is part of a computer function that prepares the fuel injection for the load the motor is about to have as you let out the clutch.

Of course the only component in the car that gets the full current of the starter is the starter solenoid but the starter soleniod it self takes several amps at 12 volts just to activate. The switches and sensors for the fuel injection computer operate at less then 12 volts and milli amps.
