I finally got around to removing my badly vibrating radiator fan. Two of the blades are broken off! While I am waiting for my new fan, what do you think of breaking off two opposing blades in an attempt to balance the fan, I know the cfm's will be reduced, but my fan only comes on after shutting off the motor anyway.

TIA,

Lee

OK. I bit the bullet and did it! Used a dremel cut off wheel to remove the opposite blades and smooth off the stubs of the broken ones. Fan spins smmoth as silk. I will replace it ASAP anyway.

Lee,

Wait; don't throw it out! You might be able to sell your old fan as a custom high performance low(er) power consuming unit for twice what you paid for it originally
. At least, that's what they do with batteries ;)

Mike

PS Is that pretty Marlot a custom mix or an OEM color? Thanks!

I had a blade fall off too and my front had a vibration so bad I thought the nose was falling off. Called FFR and they replaced it quick and I was back in business within days. If you need a new fan ASAP, just tell them to send it 2-day UPS.

If the "blade deprived" fan cools the car, and doesn't vibrate, why change it. It ain't really "broke" so there's no need to fix it.

Oldguy, I would tend to believe what you say, but two things bother me. The cfm has been reduced and my car is now hovering around the 210 degrees mark. Also with four blades missing, the fan is turning a noticeable higher rpm, so I think it won't last very long. I will replace it anyway.
