Check this all those who are interested in a different location for an ebrake with very minor modification.
I am using Lokar's ebrake handle and cables. The intent was to put the handle in a place accesable from the drivers seat while strapped in AND wasn't in the way AND was in an "ergonomically" pleasing place. So after much planning, I decided to place it on the passenger side top of the tranny tunnel. I wanted to have the mounts under the aluminum with only the top part of the handle coming through, this would make it more low profile and I would only have to have a thin cut in the aluminum. To do this I had to mount it at an inclined angle(with respect to the mounting holes). So, I had to modify the lever arm on the bottom of the handle because the FF 3/4" frame angles upward toward the trunk bottom and the rear axle and driveshaft are there too. I simply cut a 1/4" thick piece of steel about 2.25" long, tapered it for extra clearance, and welded it on to the Lokar handle at the appropriate angle found through testing and planning. I drilled a hole and welded a nut to the 3/4" frame for the back mount. Tomorrow (hopefully), I am going to build up the front mount with 3/4" steel to match the frame. It will come up from the bottom and also over from the back to make a triangle plenty sturdy.
In the pictures, the handle appears to be angled pretty high in the "released" position (all the way down), but once the carpet and insulation is in, there will be only enough room for my knuckles (+ or - 0.25 inches).
If you notice, I had to remove the FF ebrake bracket used for the stock mustang cables, I tried to use it, but it didn't make the "cut"
I painted the new lever piece with rubber undercoating, my welds aren't that bad.
