Folks,

I'm looking for guys w/this setup to get some pointers on. I realize this isn't rocket science & I'm sure I could figure it out (eventually anyway!), but I'm hoping I can get a few 'must gets' from someone.

Right now I'm on my way to a roller & I want to get the brake & fuel lines run. I recieved the Earls braided brake lines, but they were for a cobra so I have two fronts & one rear and I'm not sure any of this will work.

Thanks for any advice!

Ed, what do you need to know? I have '84 Jeep M/C, Cobra front and rear discs on IRS car, with manual brakes activated by a pedal arm modified per FFR instructions, and S.S flex lines to all four calipers. I got my front flex lines from discbrakesRus.com when I bought my rotors and calipers, and I bought my rear flex lines from Mike Mack at Tri States Motorsports, with his pre-bent rear hardline. Let me know if I can help; I love my brakes so far, they work really well with the Carbotech Panther Plus pads.

John, I think you're my Cobra soulmate!

That info already helps a lot. How about the following:

- What did you use as adapters for the Jeep MS e.g., there must be some adapter on the MS to go to the right size hard lines or...?

- What did you do for hard lines everywhere except the rear? Use the FFR stuff & flare or head to NAPA for all pre-flared stuff?

- What are you using for a distribution block in the front & the rear?

- Are you using a prop valve?

Thx!

Ed, I must admit using all NAPA pre-flared lines, and they're perfect. The brake lines were installed during our group build by Jim Pomroy, Jeff Kleiner and a bunch of other great helpers. I bought adaptors, T-fitting and connectors to fit everything when I bought the M/C and brake lines, but don't remember exactly what they were. It was pretty easy to be honest, so I wouldn't anticipate problems on your setup.

For the front brakes, the line runs from the M/C to a T-fitting, which led to the right and left front calipers. On the rear, it runs from the M/C straight down the footbox wall to a Wilwood proportioning valve mounted on the wall, then back to the rear of the car where the hard line connects to a block that came with the Tri-States hard line, then out to the calipers. Here's a M/C pic M/C & Prop Valve There are some more pictures on my build site that will show the setup if you'd like to see.

Let me know if any problems and I can try to dig up part #'s off the parts on my car if needed. Good luck!

Again, thanks John.

Do you remember anything about the lines & having to get any adapters for the MC? Somewhere in the connections I know I'll need to go from the standard line/thread sizes on the Jeep MS to the metric Cobra stuff, just not sure where the best place will be.

I did take your advice on the tri-states rear setup & ordered that stuff from Mike today. Hopefully I'll get it before the weekend. Thx.

To late Ed, Johns my Cobra soul mate :D he has help out allot. Take the M/C to your parts store preferably a Napa or Pep boys they have a good assortment of fittings. You just need to tell them that your running 3/16 female into the M/C and need the proper fitting. The Tri-State rear kit a good way to go. In the front you will need a small 3 way for 3/16 lines. Take your soft lines with you so you can make sure you get the right ones for them as well. Hope this helps in some way.
Mike

Ed, I just pulled the hood and took a couple of pics I hope will help. They're at M/C & adaptors & T fitting You can see adaptors on the M/C at the front and back ports, which let you use pre-flared 3/16" standard brake line and fittings. Going forward, you can see my "T" fitting under the coil, and the short custom-made hard line which uses that damn metric fitting on the left front hose end, and standard 3/16" on the other end of the short line connecting to the "T". There's probably a conversion fitting you could use in the frame end of the brake hose on the left front, which would be metric going into the hose, and would accept the 3/16" line standard fitting, but I don't know what it is...seems like I used such a thing on my original FFR tho. Sorry I couldn't see any identifying part #'s on the adaptors. Anyhow, the RIGHT front hose accepts the standard 3/16" line fitting, no sweat there.

Hope this helps. Remember, I'm no expert on this stuff, I'm just showing what's worked real well for me. A bunch of guys surely helped me a lot, glad to reciprocate a little!

John,

Thanks for the advice, but I can't access those pictures for some reason, apparently I 'don't have access'?

I'm up for them in email if you can send them to me that way. Email address is:

edhu[at]austin.rr.com.

Thx again!
