OK so I know it is probably a basic thing here but....
I have the cover off of the differential. How do I tell what gears I have...3.25....4.10...etc....?

Yeah I tried that. I used a bolt in one of the holes on the pinion. I put a chrome lug nut on one lug and scribed a line on the brake piston housing. The pinion goes around three times and then from like the 1200 to the one oclock position. So is this a 3.08 or a 3.27? I was wondring because there are some numbers on the big gear that start off with 308. Any ideas....?

I figured the 3.08. Anyone know if this is a good gear for a stock 5.0. I want to drive it on the street. Not too much track time. I take it this is better than the 2.73 anyhow....? Is it worth the trouble to go to a 3.55? So much for the donor stuff maybe?

i had a stock motor and the 3.08. nicely matched for the broad (thats an understatement) torque curve. 1st gear is long enough to be useful. lots of grunt. i wouldnt/didnt bother changing them. now with IRS ive got 3.27 and i cant tell the difference. lots more power now so 1st gear isnt very useful.
