Guys - I'm trying to get the last of the mods done to my frame prior to sending it out for paint. I have a MkII chassis, #3440, with the FFR installed trunk hoop.

I'd like to weld in a mounting brace/bracket for a pair of gas strut rods (to hold the trunk open), but need the exact distance from the forward edge (trunk cutout)to the trunk hoop, say 4" from either side of the trunk sides.

Can anyone help? I'd prefer not to mount the body, at this point that would be a real pain.

Mine measures about 2-5/8 but this will vary greatly depending on where your body ends up and with manufacturing tolerances. you could just buy my brackets that are made for this purpose and source the rest yourself. The brackets are not weldable as they are aluminum
