I just installed engine and tranny. It is a 3550 mid shift. OK, how do you put trans fluid in?? Can you just pour through shifter opening? Sounds a little crazy... Please help!

Fill-hole is on the left of the transmission, about half way up. Used a turkey-baster with a hose on the end of it. You fill the transmission with fluid until it starts to run out of the hole that you are filling it through. It takes about 2 1/2 quarts if I remember correctly.(ATF for first 100 miles , then replace with it with GM synromesh fluid about $10/qt at your local Chevrolet dealer).

Just dump it in the shifter hole.

Much easier.

Put Syncromesh compatible fluid in it, per Tremec. NOT ATF!

You can get Synchromesh fluid from the parts stores from Penzoil that isn't crazy.

I used Royal Purple Syncromesh stuff in mine.

Like many stated, just pour it into the shifter hole. There are now 3 or more synchromesh replacements available. However, I just used the original GM brand.

I was working on the tranny today and had a similar question. Is the only way to check the fluid level by removing the filler plug? No dipstick I'm assuming? Sorry if this a stupid question. Thanks.

Don't just dump in through shifter hole -- you still need to remove fill plug and have someone watching as you fill, once it starts to come out of fill hole you're full. 2 qts. should be just a wee bit too much (i.e. after about 1.5 qts. really slow down on filling).
