Hi,
Anyone of you experienced bad manual steering rack?
Mine has large “play” to the outgoing shaft out of the rack, not the inner tie rod itself but the shaft going out of the rack house. Only on driver side, passenger side is ok. With help of a screwdriver prying outgoing shaft, play perhaps 4-5 mm. Not many miles..
The rack is the ffr supplied for MK4.
Anyone have hade same problem? Solution, I guess replace the rack?
Related, rack installed with offset bushings into frame, using EPS.
Was this a “bad rack” or what to look for if install a new rack?
Thanks
Johan

I had the same thing on a couple of them but on the passenger side. I believe there is some sort of plastic bushing that keeps the rack supported. Mine was completely desinigrated. Made a new one out of bronze.

Ok interesting you experienced on passenger side, I was speculating it was related inside alignment pinion and bushing, perhaps just bad plastic. Will order a new rack and hope for improved quality
