The template in my FFR manual was slightly the wrong size. If I remember correctly, the template diameter was a bit too big, which would have caused the holes to be too close to the edge. I took the template and the base of the gas cap to work and resized the template on the copy machine until it was the correct diameter.

I made up a little cad based template I can e-mail if needed. Unscrewed the base and used the computer to put screws equiy distant and where I needed them when the base was tight. I think the angle is 30 degrees or so between holes......

let me know if the template is needed.. It matches the base 100%. I taped it to the base then marked where holes had to go and drilled the base. Then transfered those holes to the car body. You also have to counter sink the base holes if your going to use the FFR supplied mounting screws..

JD,
I'd love a copy of that template if you don't mind. In fact, it might be a good thing to post in the FAQ.

I wanted six, equally spaced holes - so I made this diagram. NOTE This was to scale for me, but might not be for you due to differences in printers, etc - but, you should at least be able to use the lines to get the proper spacing of the holes (if you want 6 bolts)

Am I forgetting something, or are you guys just making this job much harder than necessary. I recall using the LeMans base itself as its own "template". Put it where it needed to go, drill a hole, add a nut and screw, do the second one, nut and screw, zip the remaining holes and done. What am I missing here that you guys need CAD programs?

You DO know that that cap screws apart, don't you?????

Here is a poor attempt to turn Cad into jpeg. Not to scale but e-mail me and I can send you the scaled cad drawing..

outter most circle dia is base of gas cap 5.25"

next one in is a reference mark to help mark ceter lines of holes it is a 4.625" dia

inner most circle is the OD of the threaded section it is 3.375" dia

60 degree apart for holes that you can either counter-bore or change out the mounting hardware to button heads..

I printed it out to scale and taped it to the bottom of the gas cap mount then center punched the holes and all was good. Make sure you first put the base and cap together real tight and align it on the body the way you want it then use the template to put the screws where you want them. Watch out for a screw lining up under hinge it may hit it so beware.. measure twice drill once!

happy trails jd
