Great idea.
The only problem is, I don't think real Panteras are THAT expensive are they?
I other words, say you put $30K into a kit pantera. Couldn't you buy a pretty decent real one for that price?
I could be way off here though.
That car in the pic is so mean looking!

I love Panteras.

You can buy a rather decent one for $50k.

You won't build a kit for under 30k. Those transmissions can go for $5k.

You can actually (rarely) pick up a Pantera for around 10k. You do NOT want to buy one of them.

Great cars, I doubt they'd sell well in kit form. They are just too easy to aquire for too close to what a kit would cost.

Bill,
I picked up my next project about 3 months ago, although it's not a kit, it is a Pantera. Got it from a guy who was getting shafted, errr, divorced, and got it for a song. Sold the original 351C and transaxle, and my project '69 'Stang fastback/with Griggs suspension, which almost made the Pantera free. The guy did all of the panel replacement and hole patching. I finished stripping it down and it's getting some finishing touches done right now. I picked up a Ford aluminium small block for it, and those heads I told you about. The BOSS says I have to finish the rat first, then I can visit Hall Pantera for more "must have's"

After perusing Pantera's for the last 2 years or so, these are the prices I've found. Rusty dog, but still driveable, 20K. Not too rusty, and mostly original driver, 30K. Nice no-rust, sunny day ride, 40K. Group 4 or one off hot rods, 50K+++++. There are some good deals out there, and the sellers seem to be willing to deal, go figure.

Greg, I wish you were somewhere near close so I could check out those heads.

Awesome on the Pantera!

I was kicking around the idea of doing a coupe to have for a car with a lid built in. Saw this Pantera and I might have changed my mind.

It would make an AWESOME kit if you could figure out the transaxle setup. The interior wouldn't be hard to replicate, or doesn't look like it would be.

Maybe I'll start keeping an eye peeled.

Always wanted one of those. Almost bought one about 20 years ago with factory webers - a totally awesome car. I my Dad hadn't told me that I'd probably kill myself in it I would have bought it right then and there. The guy was only selling because he had just bought (ready for this . . . .) a 1965 Shelby.

Shoulda bought it. I heard later there were only three cars that came out of the factory with webers. I've seen them recently in the $30K range and know that they tend to have seriuos problems with rust in the frame rails behind the engine. So if you're looking, look carefully.

Maybe after I finish my kit. . . .

Ozona,

There are those guys in Texas with the big ole garage and like 3 or 4 FFR's being built. Us Suburban Chicago guys should do that! If we were lucky, maybe we could convince the wives and SOs that the time spent away from home is made up in the fact that we are saving money in tools.

You would probably drop the same $ in a GT40 replica or a Pantera replica. Which would you rather have and which would have more resell value? I learned this at 18 when I dumped money into a '65 Falcon (non-original 289 "K" motor, 9" rear, totally restored in and out). It cost the same to restore that car as it would have a '66 GT350. I enjoyed the Falcon, but would have enjoyed it more if I recouped the $ I put into it.
