Our UPS driver stopped today to share that "his brother has a real one that he bought for $120K." And then proceeded to tell me he stipped out the 289 and put in a 427. I realized that he wasn't trying to one up me, but that he was sharing what he knew of the Cobra and wanted to show his appreciation for these great cars (real or replica).

OK champ, offer 130,000 for the original!
The fun begins.
How is the 351, I bought the new 302 pushing 345 HP, but the 351 must be incredible.

I love these stories. Reminds me of the time when a gentleman ask my girlfriend if my Cobra was real. She said yes it was. He exclaims, "I knew it!! I can tell the real ones from the replicas!"

He thanked us and drove off after taking our picture (my avitar). I looked at my girlfriend, and she says, "What? It is real!"

We laughed and drove off.

Jim,
I haven't had the car out on the road yet, so I can't really comment on how the 351 performs. I haven't been over 20mph yet, but it gets to 20 pretty fast.

She's driving so he rolls down (or she hit the pwr window button)to the passenger window and "she" yells over and asks what kind of car is that (he was just sat their staring) I said a Shelby Cobra,(I didn't say replica to keep it simple) she replies OH yea now I remember those, beautiful car, he just stared then gave me a thumbs up! North of the border not a lot of people know what is a cobra, of all the people who stop and talk to me maybe, one out of 10 can name the car correctly, some call it an mgb some call it a corvette or a ferrari and once in a while someone gets it rigth...

This week I brought some pictures at my karate school and you know kids.... they all want to see the pics etc....

You know what one of my student said : Nice Cobra, is it your ??? I didn't know what to say, for once someone gets it right....  she is 10 years old and it 4 grade !!!!

So she wants to be an mechanical engineer and built her own mclaren F1....

Nick, I think it's video games that cause that. I've had a lot of 10 year olds (or younger) who know it is a Cobra. Once the age gets past 30 the chance of them knowing what it is goes way down. Several of the newer racing video games have Cobras in them. If there is one thing a 10 year old is likely to know, it's stuff from a video game.

The tow truck driver that brought my DOA Escort wagon home saw the FFR in the shop and asked if it was real. (Uh, yeah, I have a 1/2 million dollar car and I'm driving a $600 4 cyl. station wagon.) He was still excited even though it's a fake till he found out it didn't have a 427 in it. "You really should put one in, you can buy a 427 crate motor for only $3500 ya know."

The real fun has been the reactions of my daughter's friends, both the boys and girls just love it. I took one for a go-kart ride and her dad says she keeps bugging him to build one. :D
