I just got my front shocks back from Bilstein with the rework completed.

I am planning on installing Seals-It rod end seals on the ball joints, but the design of the new joint on the shaft now matches the joint on the body end, and these joints "shroud" the ball a lot more than the typical heim joint.

This causes the seal to fold backwards when installed... it looks like they will still function to keep grit out and grease in, but do I need to make spacers to go inside the seals so that the rubber seal doesn't fold back?

What do you guys think?

Has anybody else run across this with the rebuilt Bilsteins? I did a search but didn't find any directly relevant answers.

Thanks,
Dwight

I haven't sent my Bils back for rebuild yet but I have rod seals on them and mine did the same as you discribe. They seem to be working ok but I will know more when I pull them off in the next couple of weeks and see if they are keeping the dirt out.

OK - I'll probably just grind the spacers down 0.047" and install the washers "as is" and let them pooch out a bit. Glad to hear someone else did this!
