I am at the point in my build manual where I am ready to engine prep and install. The problem is I still don't have the engine yet. It won't be ready for 5 more weeks. Can I skip ahead in the manual and work on anything else, without creating problems later on?

any time I came to a stopage from back orders or just plain confused I would lork on the body some, and by the time I had the go cart running the body was almost ready

What they said, if you are sure you've got your fuel pump, gas tank, and rear suspension all done, go ahead and complete all the aluminum from the rear wall to the back of the car.

And get going on that bodywork if you are doing it yourself. I spent a couple of weekends just doing seams, and they aren't quite done yet.

If you work on installing more aluminum panels, make sure you get the upper trunk bottom piece in before you do the rear cockpit piece. I didn't, and it was a "bear" getting it in from the rear.

I am not going to be doing my own body work. I have the footboxes done, the brake and fuel lines in, the wheels, tires and brakes done. Fuel tank is in as is the steering. I just wanted to know if I could install the trunk and cockpit sheet metal etc. without creating any problems for myself later on. Can I install any part of the Painless harness? I have just been given a deadline. Need to be done by 29 June (Daughter is getting married and wants to ride to her wedding). So, I need to get going.

Ray, yes you can do the trunk and cockpit stuff except the under door panels. Can't see why you can't start the wiring also, install battery etc.

A few of us recently took the engine and tranny out of a finished FFR. The body was removed and one thing that would have made the job easier is having a "removable" transmission cover.

Therefore, I think you could do most of the other parts of the build and put the engine in easy enough if you don't put the tranny cover on until after. Also, consider making it "removable". Certainly you can do all the wiring and put the dash and gages together.) Expect the wiring and gages to take much longer than you think.
