I looked through the archive, but didn’t see a switch like mine. I have the FFR chassis wire harness for my MK4 roadster. When I turn the key to on I can hear the fuel pump relay and I have power to the coil, but no signal to the starter. Starter works fine with a remote switch. I’ve checked to make sure that the clutch safety switch is not depressed and have even jumped the terminals to bypass it entirely. Here is a picture of my switch. It does not match the one in the wiring manual. I’m guessing I’ve got the starter wire on the wrong post

Those key switches are common failure point.
The centre lug should be hot in the crank position, you can check with a test light.

If that centre lug has power with the key in crank then do the same test at the starter relay/solenoid to see if the power is getting there from the switch.

Sorry, whats confusing?
Typically the power goes to the center terminal, which is the largest. Doesn't look like that in the picture. Maybe it's a different type of switch than I have seen before. That why I used a question mark (?)

Well, I know I'm old and my eyes are o.k., but I can clearly see the BAT, IGN and ACC terminal markings. Also, all the "universal" type ignition switches I've ever used/seen are just like what he shows and the center terminal is for the starter/solenoid. So, according to his picture, the Red wire is correct at the BAT terminal, if indeed that is the battery feed. jmo

I went back through everything this evening. Everything checked out for continuity and the switch tested ok as well. Made a new jumper wire for the clutch safety and starter worked off the key. Put the safety back in with the wires on the back spades as the book shows and nothing. Put them on the front spades and starter works when the plunger is out (pedal pressed down) and not when the pedal is up. I’m happy. Now it’s time to work on the rear brake lines and parking brake cables. Many thanks to all for the replies.

Oh yeah, the manual shows the wrong wiring for the clutch switch. It’s been talked about on the forums for a while yet never changed in the manual.
