Apologize for asking a question asked numerous times before. This weekend I played with dash, 5" cutouts, glove box cutout, North turns signals, etc. Body is at painter. In mounting the body for the initial fit, I found that the appropriate space at the mirror between body and dash arch was another piece of 3/4" square steel. I think I've read that one should plan on having about 1/2" to 3/4" of aluminum dash sticking up past the stock FFR dash arch....is this correct? Please bear with me...work gave me a new computer over the weekend & I've lost my archive of e-mail addresses, old posts, etc.

Eddie, man it tends to vary, in my opinion its best to fit the dash with the body on.

Eddie I just did this and for me the FFR supplied spacer was a perfect fit...almost made me think something was wrong . The only problem I had was there was not enough space between the hoop and the body where the dash sit between the two. I cut the center vertical 3/4 tube and moved it back some then re welded it. I would not to try and get everything lined up and bend the dash without using the body as a guide.

Thanks guys, I definitely will wait until body is back on. My main concerns were (1) which direction to open up the 4" precut holes for the 5" autometers and also(2)how far to stay back from the top when cutting the glove box hole.

Eddie what glove box do you have? Also when opening up the holes for the tach and or speedo be sure to make sure you will clear the hoop above. I used the Shell Valley glove box. I measred up from the bottom of the dash 1.25 and cut my hole there. This is done so you can and a strip of wood or something like that to the inside for mounting hindges.
