Seems everyone uses both the volt and ammeter, just nobody really makes the ammeter work for fear of such a large wire thats hot at all times running into the cockpit. You could delete the ammeter and get a clock instead or bolt on a blower and substitute a boost gauge.
As for the lighting, I drilled 1/8" holes into the side of the bezels and epoxied small led lights into the bezels. I havent actually finished wiring and trying them but this is what FFR recommends for lighting. The part # for the LED's is #7219 at Radio Shack and I think they come 2 to a package. I used the bulbs from the pod. Solder leads to the brass tabs on each bulb and then epoxy them to the lexan legs that are all around the gauges and you have lights. Credit to DaveM that gave me this tip.
