Anyone else have this problem? (Before I call Phil Smith.)

I can't get my front wheels to mount on the Ford 5-lug rotors (M-1102-C.) Either the holes are mis-drilled or the rotor studs are out of position.

After getting 3 lugs in and just tightened, I spoted the other holes. No doubt that either the hub or the wheel is off.

Rear wheels are difficult to mount as well, but will go one with some effort. John Lisman did the hub drilling.

[The fronts won't mount on the rear hubs either.]

Steven,

Sounds like you better call Phil. Could you get hold of another Ford 4 1/2" bolt circle wheel just to try it out? I doubt that your front hubs are wrong. Sounds very close, though--I found it helpful to put a little grease on the holes in the wheels, they're a snug fit on the lugnuts, and the aluminum seemed to gall if ungreased. The holes wouldn't have to be off very much to make them impossible to thread.

We have bought two sets of GT-40 wheels from PS and they fit great. But, the lug holes are very tight. We had to use a thin wall socket to tighten them. I know he does each set of wheels to someone specs, maybe he drilled them for 4.25" t-bird rotors or something. Any way you look at it, don't work too hard at it, if it doesn't fit, call Phil and get him to send another set. You don't want to mess them up.

Just got my set of GT40 wheels today and the fronts fit great. Make sure you have the correct rotors. I used the 91 Lincoln Mark 7. Perfect fit.

Here's the poop:

Phil and I were brainstorming when he suggested that the studs may not be square to the hub mounting face. He's seen this situation before.

Armed with my trusty Habor Freight Dial Calipers, I measured the tip-to-tip distance between each pair of adjacent studs.

Phil was correct! While the rears had fairly consistent measurements, the fronts varied considerably. I'll be taking a hammer to them shortly.

It's interesting that John Lisman does a better job than OEM Ford installing wheel studs.

Thanks to all for the help.

Steven,
I also have the M-1102-C hubs. I replaced the bearing races which come with the hubs, without the bearings, and discovered they are a product of China! So, who knows WHERE the hubs are really made/assembled! (bearing races, but no bearings....why bother?)
