I am doing some diagnostic work on my maxima so I am trying to read the resistance on a couple of sensors that threw codes.

When the dial is turned at the 200kohm spot and the voltmeter reads 2.7 that means 540kohm right? it just seems weird they don't go by powers of 10

I don't think that is correct. Depending on your meter that is probably a measurement of 2.7 ohms. The scale of 0-200K usually represents the range of measurements you can measure.
Hope this helps. If you have some resistors of known value you can verify this.

2.7 kohms. Change the scale down one to 20 kohms and you should still see 2.7
