I can't even stand in the garage when the BB is running, after a few minutes the exhasut and smell is almost unbearable.

Too rich? Timing? fuel level?

where do I start?

All of the above. Check float level and timing first, because that's easy. Then you need to check mixture, which is more difficult for the average builder since few of us own a good Lamda sensor.

Thanks- I know a guy at work that races cars/boats- knows Holly's inside and out. I'll see if he can come over one night and take a look

If you are running HEI unit, you probably will not be able to tell much from the plugs.

If this only happens when it is cold, and you have an automatic choke, that would most likely be your culprit. Try backing that off some.

Lots of variables, in tuning.... it could be one or a combination of alot of problems. Having a good tuner on call is great!

best,
Mikee
