Been doing some changing to the settings to get the best results. As well, trying to keep the initial timing low so no starting issues. My motor is quite healthy, 10.5 CR, roughly 450-470 HP.

Have the MSD 8582 Distributor in.

Initial timing: 10 degrees
Mechanical; advance spacer - GREEN (+23 degrees)
Advance springs - Lightest, to get all advance in by 3000 RPM

What are your specs? Just looking to compare.

(And I am using a reduction starter to help starts)

Not sure what ignition box you are using but I have a 347 with same distributor. I'm using the 6AL-2 Programmable ignition box. Really nice for setting your own curve and retarding the timing for easy starts. I have my distributor locked out at 38 degrees and retard the timing at start an quick advance to all in by 2800 RPMs. I am running Webers and they like the timing early but too much or little during the transition from idle to main jets at 2-3K RPM can cause stumbles. Been great to be able to tweak it, reload it and test it without worrying about springs and bushings.
