Since rust was showing up on both my FFR Jet-Hot coated side-pipes (and the body is still at the painter!!!! and the go-kart has less than 75 miles on it!!!), I elected to send them to PHX for recoating by Custom Finishing, Inc. The crate with padding weighed 97 lbs. (61" long, 58" girth) UPS Ground quoted $69, Yellow Freight quoted $113.40 with a 40% "Yes Service" discount. The pipes are currently enroute by FEDEX Ground for $50.20. Additionally, FEDEX ground was open normal business hours, while the Waco UPS office is only open 4-7pm with very long lines. Pays to shop & compare in this case.

That's a fairly recent development. Every once in a while Fedex goes to bat and tries to take on UPS's ground rates. Lots of my vendors in the computer business are switching to Fedex at the moment. (whoever's cheaper wins)

I just had 20 computer cases shipped individually boxed to my business for $7.5 each Fedex. That's cheap. The price was better than a truck pallet.

Is it less expensive to break the shipments down into a side pipe per box and header pipes in a third or should all of them go together? I'm wanting to ship my Tristates 4-4 headers across country and I'm concerned about the cost and protecting them for the round trip.
