Time to confess - I don't own an FFR and I won't ever (they don't comply with Australian regulations...). I am building a local kit with a decent motor, and all Cobra related forums provide valuable insights into the pitfalls of building your own pride and joy.

So, I won't be taking part in the "where does this alum panel go?" or "which year donor?" or "donor vs non-donor?" etc, but mention racing/superchargers/stroker motors/horsepower/online Cobra videos etc and I'll be straight into it ;)

I just wish I waited to become member number 398 - that's my engine size...

Me too. but, wait a while that will apply here too.

What kind of intake/Efi set up is that. Wild looking.

The intake is a www.promustang.com "efi super-spyder" It's just an Edelbrock Super Victor manifold that's had 8 injector bungs welded into the runners. They sell that elbow - cast from alum, and the throttle body is a 90mm Accufab unit.

The legality problems are more a hassle than an outright impossibility. Where do I start... In Australia, a transport engineer has the right to deem your Cobra unroadworthy if...
It's left hand drive,
It hasn't passed an Australian beaming and torsional test,
It hasn't passed a f/glass material strength and composition test,
The seat/door/steering brackets don't come with engineer drawings,
The gauges have chrome/shiny bezels,
The emissions don't comply with the standards of that year motor,
There isn't a high mounted brake light,
The speedo doesn't read to 1,000,000
The seats aren't Aust DOT approved,
The seat belts... (no 4 point harness)

I could go on and on with their amusing regulations. In the real world, the engineers turn a blind eye to some minor infractions as long as they have established the basic and fundamental quality and compliance of the manufacturer. Because FFR is largely unknown over here, then engineers would be ready to pounce...

Ron, good to see you here! Looks like you have a capacity war with 2FAST4U! Bill, that's a nice looking shopping list you have there!

Craig-

WOW, those are some really strict rules!! I don't think an FFR Cobra would be worth the hassles. Aren't there any local manufacturers? I seem to recall one or two.

Yes, the shopping list has put quite a dent in my wallet. And each day, I find something else that just adds to it.

Good luck

Bill, that's the thing. FFR's aren't illegal, just too much trouble to import. As it turns out, we don't need any more options over here anyway. There are around 13 different Cobra manufacturers over here, with maybe 8 of those offering a quality product backed up by a sound company.

There is a huge variety in engines used over here. We have small block and big block fords - 385 series and FE, SB & BB chevs, 4L quad cam 32 valve all alloy Lexus, Nissan 6 cylinder, Buick 6 cylinder, Holden 5.0L, Rover V8. Twin turbo, nitrous, supercharged... Cobras are alive and kicking down here!!!

Where's you buy your stroker kit? Who built the motor? What other engine parts used?

Thanks for the info about all the Cobra manufacturers down under. At one time, I was going to build a GT40, but the cost was more than I could afford (for now anyway). I looked at Roaring Forties and DRB. Both excellent.

As for my motor, it isn't built yet. I will be building it myself. Specs are:

Lower End:
Ford Motor Sport SVO 460 block (10.322 deck height, bore 4.360-4.625, main journal 3.000, max stroke 4.500, 4-bolt mains on #2, #3, and #4)
Scat Stroker Kit (4.300 stroke cast steel crank, 6.800 H-Beam steel rods, and 4.540 JE forged 10.5:1 pistons)
Isky Cams mechanical roller cam (.640/.640 lift, 264/264 duration @ .050 lift, 108 deg separation)
Milodon gear drive
Hi-volume oil pump
Canton 6-qt road race front-sump pan and pickup

Heads:
Blue Thunder aluminum heads (2.33 int, 1.88 exh, 73cc chambers, CNC'd, intake ports matched to intake manifold)
Polished Aluminum Ford Racing Valve Covers

Induction:
Holley Model 4150 950 CFM 4-barrel carb (mech secondaries)
Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold

Ignition System:
Vertex Mag-like self contained billet HEI distributor
MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor Spark Plug Wire

Misc:
Meziere billet electric water pump (52gph) w/AN16 inlet
Milodon 10" dia x 2" tall chrome air cleaner
March alternator serpentine pulley kit (includes tensioner)

The engine is expected to develop close to 700 HP at 6000 RPM, and about 630 pounds of torque at 4000 RPM.

Braided SSTL hose and AN fitting will be used throughout (fuel, remote oil filter, oil cooler, upper/lower radiator, and surge tank).

I've estimated about $12K for the engine. A lot of money.

Bill,
Nice combination! I hope your maths are right, but i'd be surprised if you build it for $12K.... Are you using the Ford or Chev exhaust pattern? I've heard a few people regret the fact that they chose the Chev exhaust pattern, but I can't remember why!!!

Good luck with the build,
Craig

Craig-

I'm going with the Ford exhaust ports.

I am also thinking of going with a custom made IRS from Concours West Industries (CWI Inc.) in Castle Rock, WA. They offer Jag, Ford 9" and Quick Change setups. I am leaning towards the 9" Ford IRS with billet half-shafts, and Wilwood 12" vented brakes and 4-piston calipers. The unit is custom made to fit my needs and my frame. It is also designed to handle 750 HP.

The only drawback is the cost - around $5K. I may just dig a little deeper into my wallet and "go for it".

Here is their website. Pretty cool stuff.
