As the subject says, I got my backordered sidepipes, and one of them has a tip all bent in. (obviously dropped, hard)

Is this an "easy fix" or do I have to send it back?

I had the same thing happen. FFR packed them up like they were going to carry them across the street and hand them to me. I called and talked to Mark Weber. I told him I thought I might be able to pound it out if he wanted me to try. But I would be sending it back if I could get it to look good. He told me to give it a shot, as pounding the turn-out back into shape is the same thing FFR does. He also said 90% of the time they can get them to look right again. So I used some wood blocks, cut to the contour I needed to achieve, and a couple of brass punches. I thought it came out real well. I'll find out for sure when I pick them up at the ceramic coaters this weekend.

I just got off the phone with Joe at tech support, and they're having me put a UPS claim on it. I'll post how this goes.

UPDATE - UPS was VERY friendly. They're sending out someone to pick up the package from me tomorrow, no questions asked.

I had similar experience when the pipes were sent seperately due to back order. I see it as a packing problem also. I spent some time and care and bent them back and they look ok. Another one of those issues that I was afraid would take time months to get straight and the brand new set would come with the same problem.
I would assume the local muffler man could also help you out if you would prefer not to try it.

Good Luck

I had the same problem, but it was NOT UPS's fault. There was a large dent/gouge in the muffler section, but no damage to the box. I sent it back to FFR for a replacement, but I had to pay the $70 to get it there.

Advil, glad to hear you were finally able to order! Too bad I'm not in Portland anymore :(

Thanks Dragon. Yeah it's been fun so far, just takin my time working on it in the evenings after work. When I feel like it.

So far I found that PACKING boxes needed to be added to FFRs survey for things to improve.

Tell me, does only some brown paper seem adequate for shipping sidepipes? Those exhaust tips need, at a minimum, bubble wrap. And come on how hard would it be to stuff a piece of foam on the end?

I'm not mad at them, everything's getting taken care of very nicely so far, but they could save themselves sooooo much time dealing with damaged parts by spending an extra 10 seconds packing the box.

When my back ordered side pipes arrived, I realized that the method of packing was totally inappropriate, but was what apparently came from their supplier??? The box was really rippied apart by the pipes banging around during UPS shipment. Anyway, I called FFR and explained what I found and suggested they rethink the packing materials. Appears they haven't done that yet.

I had the same problem with one of my sidepipes and they were shipped in the crate with the entire kit, attached to the floor of the crate. In my case, it obviously happened at the factory and NOT in shipping.

I took a block of wood and several different sizes of ball peen hammers and was able to make the pipe tip look "OK". Luckily, I'm not a perfectionist. By the time I put on the black BBQ paint I was completely satisfied with the pipe. Someone would definately have to be "looking for it" to find a flaw.

I had FFR ceramic coat my pipes and when they came, it took me a while to get through the packaging to the pipes. This may have been the coater and not FFR, but there were styrofoam caps at the outlet end and enough bubble wrap to keep my son busy popping bubbles for a week!!
