Hi all, I recently purchased a fully assembled FF roadster, '89 5.0 drivetrain. I'm in the process of replacing the fuel tank (long story). Found a new tank and fuel level sending unit online for not too much bread and off I go. But my stewart warner gauge is configured for 30-250 ohm Full/Empty while my new sending unit puts out 160-15 ohm Full/Empty. Range is different and goes wrong direction. Okay, the way I see it, I've got two choices:
1. Purchase the Stewart gauge that uses a 90-0 ohm Full/Empty and live with the associated error but have a gauge that matches all of the others in the dash

2. Buy an Auto Meter gauge that is set up to receive my sending unit signal as is. Will read correctly but other than being round and having a white face, looks nothing like the other gauges in the dash.

Any suggestions? I'm kinda leaning towards #1 for aesthetic concerns. I don't plan on doing any autocross type of driving. Just tooling around on the weekends. If/when I see the needle approach 1/4 tank I fill 'er up. But, the engineer in me wants accuracy so I'm kinda torn.

Update: here are some links to my two gauge choices:

You can swap the old sending unit into the new tank if youre going to drop it, that way you know it will match! If you dont want to drop the tank, get the matching SW gauge and sell off your old one with the sending unit. Hope this helps!

i don't think SW make a gauge that is exactly what i need here (15 ohm E, 160 ohm F). as far as sending units are concerned, i'm using the new sending unit that came with the tank. if i could find one that a. matched my existing gauge with regards to resistance readings and b. matched the twist lock mounting arrangement on the new tank i'd go that way. so far haven't found such a beast. i can't use a sending unit with the 5 screw flange mount arrangement - won't work with the prep on the tank. that's the reason i'm swapping since that's exactly what the original builder tried to do using a custom fit gasket that lasted 5 yrs/3800 miles until i bought the car. first fill up looked like niagra falls coming down the back of the tank!

if anyone knows of a stewart warner white faced fuel gauge, 2-1/16" dia with 160-15 ohm F/E i'm all ears. or, alternatively, if i can find a sending unit that is 30-250 ohm F/E and has the ford fox mustang fuel tank mounting i'd be all over it.

thanks.
