I’ve been lurking over in The Garage Journal forum and I’ve read so many posts till my head is spinning

I’ve got a fresh 30x50 slab that I’m building my shop on and I know i want to coat the floor.

Epoxy or polyurea is what I’m thinking.

Who’s used what and would you recommend it again.

1500 sqft is a pretty substantial areas to cover so I know the cost will be high. My brother and I plan on doing this ourselves.

Thanks
Dear all,

Got a large garage floor c 40sqm+ which is going to be used for vehicles.
It'll be a new concrete floor and the customer has chosen a form of slate tile that needs to sealed (not seen them yet but think they are 300 x 300) so my questions are...

Once sub floor has fully dried out etc...

Should I require a sub floor e.g. durabase matting ?
Recommended adhesives - slow set flexible and certain brand from experiences?
Size of trowel - guessing I need 100% coverage so back buttering on a 6mm trowel ?

I'll leave one expansion joint for 'belt and braces' and use 3mm spacers
Also use a bevelled trim at the entrance

Any other suggestions gratefully accepted

If it were me I dont think I would go with tile, if they are planning on doing any work in the garage. Showroom, maybe. I had a patio done where they made it look like stone. It wasnt stamped, it was hand ground and stained. It looks great and has been very durable. Some of the fancy floor guys can make some cool designs with garage coatings.

FWIW, I have done several garages with big box store materials and they have all had issues over time. The two I had professionally coated have lasted way better.

I’ll be starting a garage build here very soon and starting to consider what I should coat the floor with before I start moving in equipment and cars. What’s your experience and suggestions for products and techniques? Epoxy? Something else? I’m going to use a very light color for light reflection properties. Thanks for any tips!

Hello all. new to this platform. I recently bought a house and I’ll be moving next month. I was considering having an epoxy shield coat professionally installed since I intend to be there long-term. Has anyone had this done to their garage floor recently, and how much did you pay for it to have been done? The one I am looking at is approximately $4100 and comes with a 20-year warranty for a 3-car garage that has approximately 600 sq feet. This price includes surface preparation of the existing concrete since the house is not brand new.

I went round and round on this for months/ I had a 20 year old floor with "issues" and oil stains. Finally decided to put down race deck - Really happy after 7 years. I run my carpet steamer over it once a year and it still looks new.

I am positive i prepared the surface properly. I waited an entire week to walk or park a car on it. It looked like crap in just a few weeks.
