I ordered a fuel filler gasket for a 98 mustang, and it seems way to large for the hole.
Attached is a pic of the tank, its right at 2in and it seems like the gasket is much larger.

Is something not right or am I just dumb?

It might be helpful if you provide more information.

What tank and filler neck are you using?
If you have a photo of the seal it might help to post that.

The OEM seal has a large flange that should be lubricated with engine oil before assembly.

The hole in the tank changed at some point. Your picture looks like my 2001. The gasket is smaller - mine was p/n 2R3Z-9072-AA and has a very small center hole, approx 1". You also need some different filler components to make it work vs what factory five supplied at least in my Mk3.1 kit.

Thanks! I'll check out that part number.
