I took my first go-kart ride Thursday evening and several since. Man what a blast. Does anyone else agree that butterflies taste better than grasshoppers? (bugs...one of the drawbacks to go-karting while sporting that FFR grin) :D

Most everything seems to be in great working order. I do have an oil leak at the remote filter. The fittings and top of the housing are dry so I'm thinking that it's either leaking past the rubber filter ring or a possible crack on the underside of the housing.

Now that I have everything working with the stock harnesses, my next step will be to tackle the wiring diet.

David, if you don't mind I'll jump in here as well, rather than starte a new thread. I also took my first go-cart ride today! :D :D Just a short one, but enough to get a feel for it - upon return, I told the wife, "if I ain't careful, this thing is gonna get me in trouble!"
And I've also got an oil leak, sounds like the same place. :(

I am building a B&B, but I also had an oil leak. Mine appeared to be two, but ended up (I hope) being only one at the oil pressure switch. I thought that the leak was at my oil filter (no remote in this case) and at the drain plug. Both of those appeared to be tight, and as I worked around with a rag, I found oil by the sensor. Man was it ever loose, I do not know what I was thinking when I put that in. Tightened it up, and it has been fairly dry.

I still have open headers and have not ventured past the end of the driveway. I am still a little wary, as my seat is not mounted yet, and I slide around when I try to brake or use the clutch.

Although the go-kart rides are a rush, they are proving to be a really good "debugging" tool. I had several electrical gremlins and a cooling problem that were a snap to fix without the body on. Plus I always liked bugs in my teeth.

Happy motoring

I'll also share my first gokart ride without a new post. I got the car running so I called my buddy who is also building an FFR. He said "I'll be right over" He wanted to hear it run. So after he heard it run I said "Why don't we drive it?" He said "there are no seats." I said "lets set them in, tighten some suspension, and go!" That we did.

So I drove 2 blocks to the gas station (sort of a good cop excuse for driving a car with no title, ins, etc.). Got there, put in 8 gallons, damn thing wouldn't start. Had my friend hold the choke closed by hand. Didn't notice he was looking down the carb. Hit the starter and poof, he has gas in his eyes. I ask if he's ok, he says he needs water, and he goes inside. Now I'm sitting, thinking I blinded the guy, waiting for the cop to show up and ask what I'm driving. A few minutes go by and he's out and ok, hit the starter and it runs. Back to the garage. It was fun though!

Found I had a cast iron distributor gear, not good with the steel gear on the F-cam. 30 minutes of running, basically no load, cast gear noticably worn. Without this forum, I wouldn't have known to fix this! Thanks guys!

A question, I'm running a bit rich. I'm using a friends glass spark plug to adjust mixture (it's a british thing I think). How should I jet my Edelbrock (Weber) 1406 600cfm carb? I bought the jet kit which includes metering rods, jets and springs.

I forgot to mention my engine has a high volume oil pump. Damn thing will put out 100PSI cold at 2000 RPM? Isn't this a bad thing? My brain tells me I sould swap it out with a stock pump next time I have the oil pan off.
