I went for my first go-cart ride today and I could not get into 2nd gear, it just grinded.I have a used T-5. The clutch fully disengages.I can put it in gear and push the car with the clutch in. Is it a simple adjustment or is my tranny junk? Please help. Thanks

Sounds like 2nd gear synchros are severely mesed up. Take the tranny to a shop and see what they say. If it is under 1000 get it rebuilt. If not new ones are about 1100.

Hanlon has a 2d3rd syncho kit for 90 bucks...I paid a shop $160 to put it in...total $250. Hanlon also offers a complete mainshaft replacement (that includes the 2/3synchro) for $250...a better choice...your total investment is less than $425 including labor and shipping.

If you have a new pilot bushing in the flywheel that can create this problem until it gets borken in. I just went through this on Bo's car, after getting a few miles on it she's fine.

If you have plans to throw some serious HP at your car down the road, now is the time to lose the T-5 and put a 3550 or TKO in. Do it now, or do it later..., it is easier now.
