Anyone have any ideas as to relocation of the sending unit? My boy and I cranked FFR3490 up for the first time last night and thought we may be having problems with the pressure, but after getting a little advice we figured out that the smaller replacement sending unit was the problem. After putting the old one back in the pressure is great, but it sits on the headers. I'd appreciate any thoughts/advice I could get as to relocation.
Thanks,
Shawn

Shawn, I used a 1/4" 45 degree street ell screwed into the block so that it is pointing a little foward. Then I used a short nipple and a coupling to extend far enough for clearance for the sending unit. The sending unit screws into the coupling. Be careful not to tighten the sending unit by twisting the top of it - use the hex on the bottom. It can start leaking if twisted - Dont ask how I know!
Hope this helps.

I'll be trying to start mine for the first time about 4th of July. However, I saw the location problem while putting parts together. I went to local, large scale, plumbing supply house for the fix. I retained the OEM hexagonal extension. I screwed to it, a square-sided brass 45 elbow (same size pipe threads as the OEM piece) The 45 has female on one end and male on the other. Into this I threaded a 4" brass nipple (same size pipe threads again) and a brass couple. This raised the sender about 7" above and forward of the header collector and provided a threaded female hole to screw the sender into. Hopefully this will be enough. In case it's not I've considered fabricating a small sheet metal heat shield to use in conjunction with the additional plumbing. I'm also putting one between the drivers side rear header pipe and the driver's footbox wall which is only about 3/4" away from the exhaust. For what it's worth, I had initally bought a much smaller OEM sender for a Ranger PU which is what I currently have, but I noticed my Autometer gauges came with its own oil sender which I will probably swap out. It is about the size of the original Mustang one. The Ranger sender is about the diameter of a quarter and about 1.5 inches long.

I used only the 1/4" street elbow to get the sender closer to the block. Edelman part #224400

And by the way....the smaller sending units are idiot light units. Even the Fords with gauges, they are either on or off. The gauges have pegs at 60#, so you'll always have either 60# or nothing. If you pair it with an earlier, non-pegged gauge, you'll wonder why you have 100# of pressure (guess how I know that one)
