I just got the video from FFR. It's great but after watching it and seeing an example of one of their bare frames with glossy black powdercoating-I'm thinking that even though I paid for the powdercoat option, maybe I got a plain painted frame by mistake. My frame is a satin black with numerous runs and paint flaws. I certainly would never get that option from FFR again if this is how it comes. Maybe I've been looking at the basic paint all along! I really think my 8 year old daughter and her friends could have done as well with a bunch of cans of Krylon. Please let me know what I should expect. Thanks much!

All the powdercoated frames I've seen from FFR were pretty good looking. If yours looks like cheap paint, it probably is. Call FFR.

I had my powdercoating done locally a lot cheaper. Judging by the powdercoating on the various part supplied by FFR it is usually quite well done. Powdercoating is tough!! Try to scrape it off the frame then compare to some powdercoated part. (Did you get the 3-link? The pieces are powdercoated). If it scratchs off easily it's paint. If your frame is not powdercoated I would suggest getting a refund from FFR and having a local powdercoater sand- blast and coat for you IMHO. Great opportunity to modify the frame before. Cobra Earl's trunk kit, ground lugs, dress up some of the welds for better fit of Alum panels etc. My .02

If it is satin black you most likely received a painted and not powdercoated frame. All the powdercoated frames I have seen come out of FFR are gloss black. Like has been said before, if you can scratch it off easy it is not powdercoat. Call FFR and discuss it with them. If they made an error you have some money coming back you can spend on something else.

From your description, it sounds like you have paint. Is there anyone near you with a powdercoated frame you can look at?
I'd give FFR a call and then e-mail them a pic of your frame if possible.

Here is a pic of my F-panel that I just took. I too ordered the powder coat from FFR.

NOW...if you look down on the main 4" tube, you can see all sorts of runs. The car is already incredibly dusty, so it looks pretty dull, but even still, it is in NO way GLOSS, it is much more of a satin/flat black.

Now you got ME thinking that we may not have gotten the requested powder coat...

Your frame is definetly not powdercoated, no way in hell. And in your climate, that will rust pronto if it scratches. I would call FFR and either get another powdercoated frame or get money to powdercoat it locally plus all the money you will need for the transport and delays. Did you pay for the powdercoat, was your bill 590 higher?
