Yippie, just got the bad boy delivered by Stewart. Body buck is built, body removed and put on the body buck. Now it's time to take off those aluminum panels. Any words of advice from anyone?

thanks

My advise on removing the aluminum panels is too take a marker and dram a arrow through the mating panels with a number on each side. That way when you put the aluminum back together you will remember where it is suppposed to fit.

I took many digital pics of the aluminum. But I did not have to revert back to them at all since I marked the location with the arrows.

Ironbrad,
The comment Larry made is one of the neatest items on re-installng those panels and should be a point of intrest to Admin as a ally panel install FAQ.

That idea works if the frame is not going to be POR'd . But if after removing all the panels and you then spray/finish the frame thereby covering the reference marks are you not hosed? Or did I mis-interpret what you meant?

yes, i think you did mis-interpret me.

Mark the panels, remove the panels, than paint the frame.

If for some reason you decide to paint the panels, than you could be hosed.

A few days ahead of you with FFR 3674. Mark foot boxes carefully for which lips go over the others. Mark the under side of every piece on each side of frame rails for rivet location. I marked pieces for orientation, location. Pay attention to the fit of the aluminum to see where welds may need to be ground or the aluminum relieved for a good fit. I separated pieces for the drivers and passengers footboxes. There are a lot of pieces! Take care with storage.

Use a sharpie marker, and draw arrows on the panels themselves pointing at all the edges with the word "under" and "over" next to each arrow. Then you know what goes where.

It wipes right off with a little acetone or prepsall later.
