I would like to know "why" the FE series of engines have a cooling problem. The 429-460 series don't share this.

Just curious.

I am not sure if this has any real validity to it but one thing I have run into with 4 different 428CJ blocks are very very thin water jacket/cylinder walls.. 30 over is about all you can safely go without an issue.. Maybe this causes other issues as well? Also at least on the CJ blocks there is a note in the ID books I have that state the blocks had a special make-up of metals.. more iron or more nickle or what have you.. again possible heat retention..

One thing for sure is the fact that it is 10 pounds stuffed in a 5 pound enging bay in the mustang. little air movement for things to cool off. Engine, exhaust manifolds, exhaust pipes and the like are all on top of the fire walls and other items.. Zero room for flow..!

2 cents?

The FE has a very thin wall casting. This leads to the cooling issues. Remember, this engine were designed for racing. They only put them in street cars to homologate and make them legal for the sanctioning body they were raced in.
