Does it make any difference where the fan relay is located with respect to the fan its self? Or another way to ask the question, does the relay need to be near the fan?

I plan to have a 10 gauge wire from the battery to a 30 amp breaker and then to the relay and then to the fan.

Battery ----- 30amp breaker ----- relay ----- fan.

I understand that the shorter the run between the power source (battery) and the device being powered (fan), the better.

What is the benefit, if any, of having the relay close to the powered device (fan) verses close to the power source (battery).

Thanks for the suggestions. I plan to mount the relay in a protected area on the firewall near the starter (battery power source). I'll run a fused #10 wire from the battery to the relay and then another #10 from the relay to the fan. Like this:
