Hi guys, I have a question. What is a longblock and what is a shortblock? I have heard those terms used on many different posts and I have no idea what they are or what the difference is.

Thanks guys.

Short block = from the heads down
Long block = from the heads up

If you ordered a short block you would most likely get the block, crank, pistons, oil pan, etc...

If you ordered a long block you would most likely get the block, pistons, crank, heads, valve covers, etc...

A shortblock is the block, pistons, connecting rods, and crankshaft only. No heads, intake manifold, lifters, etc. A longblock includes the heads but still no manifolds. A crate engine is a complete engine ready to run with everything installed.

Correction - Crate Engine is an almost complete engine, but still needs a few things added. (plugs, wires, intake, throttle body, carb, etc.)

Turnkey Engine = Everything installed, drop in and turn the key.

Ok, what about big block and small block?

Is it just the displacement size that's the difference?

Would it sound funny if I called my 1.6L Honda Engine a small block? How about a mini block?

Oh come on, don't get me started on this.

Honda's junk, Ford's good? That's funny.

How many recalls does a 1992 Mustang have?

Also, there are many 650+ HP 4 cyl Honda's out there running low 10's.

1992 Honda Civic Hatchback, Normally aspirated
12.09 secs @ 112.80 MPH

1992 Honda Civic Hatchback, Turbo, no nitrous
10.672 secs @ 136.36 MPH

Crave,
Given the ratio of 5.0L to 1.6L I would call it the 32% Block :D :D
