What do I need for a drill attachment for spinning the oil pump? My engine's been sitting a while and I want to keep it lubed..

Thanks

Remember to use a reversible drill since the pump needs to be spun CCW. When I did this it spun nicely until it picked up the oil and then it put a BIG load on the drill. I wanted to keep the pressure up for two or three minutes and the drill got really hot.

Autozone Free Loan-A-Tool program. Put down a deposit and use as long as you want. Keep your receipt and when you are done --turn it in for full refund. I have built four engines with their Torque wrench and will finally buy my own. Keep her lubed! :D Tim

I've gone the socket with extension route before after autozone didn't have the loan a tool available. One caveat, be very careful when you are removing the socket after the priming. There is a lip, edge, whatever that can catch the rim of the socket and pull it odd the extension and it will plop down to the bottom of the oil pan. Make sure you have a strong socket to extension "connection" and it is on there snug. If you are slow and careful will puliing it out you won't have any problems.

I was just thinking of asking the same question. I have one additional question. Where does one stick this long, slender object to accomplish one's goal of making the insides of one's engine very slippery?

Down the distributor hole.

If I pull the distributor, and I'm careful not to turn the rotor, and I don't turn the engine over while it's out, can I just put it back the same way without messing anything up?

Yes, I used pieces of masking tape to mark the position of the rotor and position of the distributor. Obviously you would still need to set the timing when it is running again.

Dave-
Here you go: 1/4" deepwell-1/4" 6" extension and a old allen key cut out the bend, allen is 6millimeters or try a 1/4" allen. I just spun it today counterclockwise. Bill

Dave, I use the 1/4" socket and extension also, but I put some duct tape over the socket-extension joint. Also if you've got help, it's a good time to bleed your oil pressure gauge line to get the air bubbles out. When re-installing the oil pump, if the dist doesn't sit down all the way, don't panic, just re-incert the 1/4" drive and turn the pump a little until the dist sits down. Take your time when incerting or removing the 1'4" drive stuff, there's always a chance of separating the socket. That clunk, when the socket hits the bottom of the oil pan is no fun. Good luck, Bob
