What is the accepted gap for the trunk, door, and hood? Are you guys using some sort of gauge to check the edges? I checked my Explorer and the gap was pretty consistent at 3/16". I was thinking between 3/16" and 1/4" would look acceptable.

Also, when radiusing the hood and trunk what are you doing about the large gap areas? Do we rough in additional glass or the 3M short strand Filler?

Thanks for the help!

Tom, in a perfect world I think the gap should be 1/8" but it's more important that it be even.

I have had good luck using marglass for slight edge build up. I a short strand bondo.

When working on the gaps the one that you have to watch is the front door gap, you have to make sure that it clears when opening and don't forget the paint will add thickness.

I usually like to add a little extra clear so it looks like a 3/16" gap at the primer stage would be about right.

Thanks for the tip on MarGlas. I've had good success in similar applications using West Systems and Milled Fiberglass mixed to real thick consistency. It's real tough after it cures and you can sand it to a razors edge!
