Good morning,

After using most of my energy up on the hood I decided to leave that alone and move to the doors. I am at the stage of fitment for all items prior to final paint prep. The doors while a tough to do with one person are not as bad as I thought. I have the generation 2 type set-up.

So far the alignment has been minor and the main objective is to get the door to sit int he center of the opening and get all gaps to be equal. I have managed to get the top plane in line with body line and the overall fit of the door is quite nice. My issue is when I go to open it it binds slightly. If i move the door towards the back of the car the bind goes away but now I am off center and the gaps look bad.

Question is can you remove material from door edges? I do not need to take much but do not want the doors to seperate as would a steel door and skin.

Anyone been here done that?

Thanks again...

You are right on the money.. Used a little clay to see where it was hitting and where it was free and front lip area is the place. Was not sure what was going to happen if I started sanding..

Paint... Oh yeah .. That would have been great. Get everything perfect taking care to do it prior to paint and themn go to install after paint and need to sand more.. not good for paint..

thanks for the pointer

Mr Wolf:

Take a piece of 180 sandpaper and tape it rough side out to the door jamb where the door is hitting. Open and close the door a few dozen times and then try it without the paper. It should have made clearance for you without taking off any extra material.

Happy motoring

Seems like you have been there oldguy....

Do I want material to come off door or off body? Would sem your method would create a dish in the body work while making the new contour? If I remove from the door it would be an equal removal of the entire door edge to keep that nice crisp line? ok not so crisp but you get the idea?

Thanks Ken,

I took my angle grinder with a medium 3-m roll disk and went to town. In less than 2 mins the line was crsip and the doors look great/work great. I was afraid that like a steel car door if you take material off the edge the skin would seperate from the rest of the door. Did not happen with the FFR unit. Thankfully...

It will need a little TLC in the final prep stage but at the moment is works great..
